Mesenchymal Stem Cell Therapy for Lupus

Mesenchymal Stem Cell Therapy for Lupus

For those with lupus who do not respond well to more conventional types of treatment, stem cell therapy may be one of the most promising new areas of medicine to explore.

Lupus Stem Cell Treatment

Mesenchymal stem cells have been used by doctors to treat lupus patients for more than ten years now.

Many studies have already proven the safety and efficacy of cell therapy for lupus.

A clinical study was conducted by Jun Liang. et al. tested a total of 200 patients, and evidence showed that mesenchymal stem cells could improve disease activity, the reduction of protein in the urine, and hypocomplementemia.

Doctors found that allogeneic stem cell therapy significantly reduced disease activity in lupus patients.

What is systemic lupus erythematosus?

Lupus is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune condition. It will have varying symptoms. Some people experience cold-like symptoms, and fatigue at the onset. A lupus patient can experience swelling, inflammation, damage to the skin, and a butterfly-shaped skin rash that develops on the entire face. If not given ample attention, this will lead to fatal organ failure.

What causes Lupus?

Autoimmune diseases like lupus usually occur when there are defective stem cells.

Lupus can occasionally be caused by a genetic predisposition, and environmental variables like severe stress can also raise a person’s risk of developing the condition.

Lupus can be brought on by specific physical infections as well as by some prescription drugs, such as blood pressure and seizure medications, and antibiotics.

What are the common drugs that can lead to lupus?

According to Medical News today, some of the common drugs that are associated with Lupus if misused is

  • Hydralazine, a hypertension medication
  • Procainamide, a heart arrhythmia medication
  • Isoniazid, an antibiotic used to treat tuberculosis (TB)

Once a person stops taking these drugs, the signs of lupus gradually go away.

Symptoms of Lupus Disease

  • Rash
  • Chest pain
  • Hair loss
  • Inflammation
  • Muscle & joint pain
  • Sensitivity to sun
  • Kidney issues
  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Ulcer in the mouth

Sunlight, mild diseases, and even recommended medications might cause symptoms to worsen.

Lupus causes the body’s cells to start attacking themselves, similar to other autoimmune diseases.

This inflammatory response causes the body to suffer considerable amounts of harmful inflammation, which can quickly progress to more serious outcomes.

The kidney, central nervous system, circulatory system, lungs, and heart failure have all been linked to lupus.

Is Stem Cell the hope Lupus Patients are waiting for?

There is still no complete cure for lupus. Most of the time, patients will be prescribed a series of anti-inflammatory medications like immunosuppressants, biologics, and corticosteroids. Unfortunately, if overused, these medications contain harmful side effects that often limit the patient’s quality of life instead of improving it. It is not effective in reducing the symptoms, which is why clinicians are looking into mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs).

So how may mesenchymal stem cells be beneficial to lupus patients?

Stem cells are embryonic, naturally existing cells that possess the extraordinary capacity to “differentiate,” or change, into a variety of other cell types in the body.

Usually, they locate inflammation and damaged cells in the body and start to replace and repair those cells.

Everybody’s body contains stem cells.

However, as we age, our stem cells lose both quantity and potency because of aging.

Mesenchymal stem cell transplants are now being used by researchers to treat autoimmune illnesses.

It was believed that increasing the body’s supply of fresh stem cells would improve a patient’s capacity to combat inflammation and lessen autoimmune disease symptoms.

Sources of mesenchymal stem cells include donated cord tissue, bone marrow, and other bodily tissues.

These cells have the advantages of being easily accessible, not being rejected by the body (not requiring a donor match), and not requiring chemotherapy to treat the patient.

MSCs are also among the strongest stem cells that can be used in cellular therapy.

It is vital to get high-quality stem cells. You need to make sure to get hold of legitimate doctors who have in-depth knowledge of your medical case. A thorough assessment has to be done before stem cell treatment can be used.

Stem Cell Advocates

Lourdes Duque Baron, an actress-singer, film producer, and author, and Michael York are staunch supporters of stem cell research.

Stem cell therapy has resulted in incremental improvements that allow Lourdes Duque Baron and Michael York to continue living with incredible energy and immune systems.

Recipients of billions of stem cells attest to the truth and efficacy of this revitalizing and enormously powerful treatment.

Michael York, a well-known actor, became an advocate for stem cells after being treated for amyloidosis and multiple myeloma.

New Breed of Homo Sapiens Book

A new book about stem cells and their wonders was authored by Lou Baron and will soon be released.

New Breed of Homo Sapiens Book Cover

“ Age should not define what you can do best to create a better world for humanity to thrive upon without fear of old age and other symptoms of age-related degenerative diseases”- Lou Baron

This book is based on years of painstaking research and recent discoveries on stem cell therapy pioneered by her better half, Dr. Baron, an esteemed general, robotic, and stem cell surgeon.
The book’s goal is to educate people about the direction of research and get stem cells accepted in the mainstream. Stem cell therapy has the potential to transform the healthcare system as we know it.

When my father came back in Philippines from working abroad, he brought set of encyclopedias for me to read.  It was then the first time that I read about paintings of the old masters (e.g. Leonardo Da Vinci, Van Gogh and others) which gave me my

Origami Pilipinas: Changing the Country one paper fold at a time

MAY 22 TIU theater is an artist hub located in Makati, and I was given the chance to watch Bakata: The Battle of Street Poets, a play produced by  Toshihiko Uriu  -   The play was a huge success and is predicted to turn into a Philippine classic, but I am writing this article right now to highlight another story that occurred inside the TIU theater.  A collaboration piece that helped produce the effect of the wonder called Bakata.
