For several days now, I have been seeing posts on social media about the Netflix show "Beef," which is currently super trending. Many people are saying that it is one of the best Netflix shows of all time with a whopping 99 percent rating. One particular scene in the show has been getting a lot of attention, where a character walks towards a church while someone sings a praise and worship song for Jesus Christ. The actor's emotional reaction was so genuine that it reflected the true church experience. He unexpectedly burst into tears, feeling the joy and emotional catharsis of losing himself and truly connecting with Jesus Christ through prayer.
One of my favorite Asian actors, Steven Yeun, is part of this Netflix hit. Asian actors are currently shining in Hollywood, and Steven Yeun is one of the best. I first saw him in the zombie apocalypse-themed show "The Walking Dead" as Glenn, and he gave a superb performance. His character was so memorable that when he died, people say that the show began to decline in ratings. I was curious about Steven Yeun's life story, and I found out that he is a South Korean-American actor and a history maker. He was the first Asian American actor to get nominated in the Academy Award for Best Actor. Some of his other films include "Okja," "Sorry to Bother You," "The Humans," and now he is one of the leads in "Beef."
Steven Yeun's parents decided to move from South Korea to Canada, where they lived in Regina, Saskatchewan, before moving to the United States. He was raised as a Christian and attributes praise and worship songs to helping him during tough times. His parents owned a beauty supply store in Detroit, and he has a bachelor's degree in psychology with a focus on neuroscience. His parents initially thought he would pursue a degree in medical school, and they supported him in pre-med. However, he decided to become an actor instead. At first, his parents did not agree with his decision, as they knew that acting is not a lucrative profession, especially for an Asian actor. But he felt that it was his destiny and began taking part-time jobs to support himself while pursuing acting. He eventually graduated and became part of a Chicago-based Asian American sketch comedy troupe, where he met fellow actors in Los Angeles. He attributes much of his success to the help of his parents, much like Adam Sandler.
Steven Yeun tried out for various projects, auditioning here and there, but it was "The Walking Dead" that really made him shine. It became the highest-rated TV series during that time, and this gave him the opportunity to land other roles. Due to his ability to choose the right films with the right script, he was able to grab so many interesting TV and film projects.
